Here's a little project i've been working on with my 16 year old son. Mainly me working and him asking when is it gona be done. :)

Spi epoxy, 2k primer , more epoxy, and Universal Clear, HOK KBC burple and -----@--------- silver. Shot with a sata rp in the garage at home, this is the 1st job i've done in a few years. I was a little rusty and was fight'n killer humidity but it came out pretty nice, even better after a cut and buff i"ll try to get a few more pics after I was done polishing.

Cool Father and Son project! You make a lot of memories during a build like that and the kid learns. Good job.

Just have your contract drawn up and have him sign it before you hand over the keys. LOL
Great job.

I remember when I did a YZ250 dirt bike for my oldest boy. Stripped it down rebuilt the tranny, tuned it up, painted it from the frame up. First time he took it out he was gone about 2 hours and came walking home. I asked if the bike broke down and he just hung his head and said no but I got it stuck. So I grab the truck and threw a 50' hay rope in the back and off we went. The bike was in a gravel pit buried up to the handle bars in mud.
Made him wade out there and tie the rope to the handle bars and then I just dragged it out. Unhooked the rope and said, "I'll see ya when you get back to the house" and drove on home. Good thing for him I wasn't in a hanging mood that day cause I had plenty of rope. LOL

That is soo awesome.. I remember when Bob did a build with his kid and posted it up on the old site.. I envy you guys with boys.. I had always dreamed of doing such with a boy, but I got 4 little girls instead..

The truck looks absolutely fantastic.. Im sure your son is proud as a peacock and you both should be.. Enjoy the time you spend together.. He will always cherish these memories

BK, Girls can learn this stuff to, I know a few women painters that do very well. Point is-if any of your Daughters end up having an interest in cars that's cool.

I have a son and a daughter. My son was mostly interested in partying and getting women pregnant. He married a like-minded person with a nursing degree and they are raising seven children together. My daughter used to come out to watch and help when I was working on the car. She realized she didn't want to do it for a living but she liked the mechanical stuff. She got state scholarships for local community college and university and got a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. University offered her a teaching assistant job in addition to a scholarship if she pursued a masters degree. She quit her 30-hour a weekend job at Red Lobster, graduating two years later into a job at Pratt-Whitney, the company that paid for her research thesis in "Stress Analysis of Titanium Alloys." She worked for GE for a while, heading a test team on shuttle engine pumps. I guess she's a rocket scientist. She now works for a small company but I'm not cleared to know what she does. I've always wondered who her real father is....

Glad everybody likes the truck here's a few more pics after a cut and buff. Have to agree about spend'n time with the kid i do enjoy it all though sometimes he makes me wana call my dad and apologize for being a teenager. Dont worry about the wheels and tires there just rollers, had to use something with 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern after the crown vic front conversion and explorer rear axle swap.IMG_9512.jpg

BK,

I'm a shop / industrial arts teacher (we call it technology education now). I see girls out thinking and out working boys in my class all the time. It just depends on the student.

Great job Scott. Real nice paint combination and I expect your son will be the envy of all his friends. My son's two oldest boys graduated high school last week. It's amazing what teenage boys can do to a father. Having been on the receiving end, it makes me smile to see him get a little of what he gave.

Your Son's life might change a lot when he hits the streets with that new ride, I hope all the best and glad to see stuff like this still happening.

My Son built a 70 Nova SS, it was a three year project. Lots of memories and lots of stories related to that car. Even got a video of me street racing against it in the 80's. It was a life changing event for Dalton when it hit the streets. I've got a few of Dalton's build pics here:

All those hours Dalton spent in the shop learning-I always told him that it doesn't hurt to learn this stuff if he needs something to fall back on and it also makes a great hobby. I always hoped he'd think outside the box and pave his own way in life but now with a house payment and a family to support so soon in life he's currently working full time in a collision shop. I'll be proud of him whatever he does, always have been. My Daughter has been holding a 4.0GPA for quite awhile now and has two more years of high school, no interest in cars or anything mechanically related, I hope she pics a field she can do well in.

nice job!!

bob, when i first started doing this stuff, it was only as something to fall back on. I was already lining up college and classes to get into architecture/engineering..took a few classes in high school already. once i got into this, it became a full time job. LOL. people think i'm crazy, but i enjoy it more than sitting behind that desk doing drawings all day. even if its in the cold ac and making triple what i am now..haha.

this work is just addicting i think!
