1970 MGB

Looking good, Eric. I remember those shocks from my Midget, but I never took one apart (was too scared)!

Good job on the electrical. Pretty typical damage, I'd say.

She's going to look great! Interesting how much the color looks different in the last two pics. Maybe that yellow blanket is bleeding it's color over.

Stay healthy,
Chris

Yeah that is weird about the color, cheap phone camera? Some of my overhead lighting is led and some is old school flourescent (?)
There was also some rodent damage on the harness, but I repaired it in the same manner.
Thanks, you guys stay healthy too.

The front turn signals are NLA, and what fun would it be to just by new ones anyway? They are made of what I believe is referred to as "pot metal". They were pretty corroded, and there was a tiny hole in the one. I cleaned well and repaired the hole with a bit of duraglass.

The reflective coating around the bulbs had disintegrated over time so I sanded, prepped and sprayed them with white epoxy.

A few days later I topcoated the backside of the housing with some stainless colored Rust-Oleum spray bomb just to give it a more natural look.
I added a ground wire because these LBC's have a reputation for electrical problems, when a lot of times it is just grounding. They are originally designed to ground through the body where they mount, but I'm not scraping off my nice UV clear!

Nice. I lucked out have doubles of all the lighting stuff and could cobbled together a good set all around. Looking good, Eric.

Now, what's this with LBCs have electrical issues?!

NO, I said LBC's have a REPUTATION for having electrical issues, not that they do! Lol

Degreased, pressure washed, sandblasted the wire wheels, replaced about 10 spokes, and built a rack to suspend them.
Finally yesterday I was able to get a couple coats of epoxy on them. I did the straight from sandblasting to primer on them, I know there's varying opinions but these would not be easy to wipe off!

It's a bit chilly here this weekend of course so I have the furnace running. The plan is to spray the Motobase (Argent silver from Chad S) on Friday and clear Sunday so I will be about 6 days in to the epoxy window.

Not the easiest thing to spray, but they look good. The bead area is really pitted, but these run tubes.

lol, okay, good. totally agree with you. I think the vast majority is a grounding problem.

I've driven many lbc's over the years including jags (same just bigger). As with all vehicles wires don't usually just go bad, probs are usually at a connector, connection or a device. These cars don't have headlight or wiper relays so all the current flows through the tender switch gear (high resistance and burned contacts). Adding relays here and redefining grounds solve most of the problems, then there are those bullet connectors but I've actually not had that much trouble with them. Then there are the problems associated with Bubba working on it with wire cutters and a test light but that's another story
So I always start by looking to the connectors. BTW... I would solder that ground wire to that bulb socket instead of bolting through the shell. Use a 30 amp iron.

I was turning into a nice neighborhood one night and had to stop for this nice looking lady that was jogging by, as my lights shown on her they started flashing off and on! You know she thought I was some kind of perv and I don't blame her. The car (1975 Jag XJC) had never had any strange electrical probs before. Needless to say I went straight and put relays on the headlights!

Ha! Funny now, but it wasn't then I'll bet!

The plan now is to get the car functional to a certain degree and then consider upgrades like the relays, which are a great idea. I'll just have to watch what kind of neighborhoods I cruise around in until then!

Yea it pissed me off, such a nice looking Jag too, fresh red Imron and nice wheels, and it acts like that! Really relays at least on the headlights are mandatory on lbcs, do it as soon as you can.

Friday I waited until around noon for the humidity to burn off a bit, tacked off the wheels and sprayed 2 coats of base.
Let dry overnight, tacked, and then 2 coats of universal.
My wood and PVC rack worked pretty well but something I had issues with: the wheels remained on the pipe from bare metal through clear. As I sprayed I would spin the wheels to get coverage.

I wiped the pipe down with lacquer thinner and then tacked between products. Still though, from spinning the wheels I was getting flakes of epoxy chipping off of the pipe in to the base and clear. I kind of thought of that possibility, but never came up with a good solution.

If you would have just wiped the pipe down with 700 or 710, or washed it with Dawn and water the epoxy would have stuck much better.
Thank you, I didn't even think of that, as silly as that sounds.
That's your years of experience talking!
