1968 Mustang Coupe Restomod

I forgot to show this but awhile back Mark Houlahan came by the shop to help us install the Ron Francis wiring harness for the SOHC Mod motor.

Takes a lot of wires to run a modern engine

Every wire is numbered so you can't make a mistake if you hook it up to the same number on the control panel that is plugged into the stock Ford computer.

Brian and I were trying to figure out what we were going to do to cover up all the wires in the trunk and we found out about Mustang to Fear's trunk kit for the coupe. At the time we inquired they only had one made for the Eleanor style taillights. Rich said he was going to make one for the stock taillights and we also received the first gas filler neck cover.

We still have to make a bracket to mount the computer and control panel behind the the Mustang to Fear trunk panel kit.

Rusty, how was the fit and finish of the trunk kit? Did you have to do a lot of work to make it fit?

Great all we had to modify was the wood for the floor a little to fit around the gas filler. The problem was it was in my garage at the house and I don't have a tool box there and all we had was a big hand saw we use for trimming trees. Steve Baur had his cordless drill with him.

I decided to mount the wiring behind the seat on the plywood board that came with the Mustangs to Fear trunk kit.

I replaced the coil packs and plug wires but still have a lot to do under the hood.

We installed the Dakota Digital gauges awhile back but I never did get a photo. Now I need to get a battery installed in the trunk so I can see them in color!

I ran out of room at the shop so I moved this to my house and started working on it again on the weekends.

I had a hard time finding a master cylinder that would clear the cam cover and did a search on line and found this Bronco II master cylinder and it fits.

Those headers looks like they were a bear to get in there. That is one tight fit.
The wiring kits, even when numbered, still take a lot of patience and forethought so congrats on another fine job!

They were easy compared to my race car with a 428 and shock towers. You have to shorten bolts and grind down a wrench to install headers on it.

I hooked up the battery in the trunk (I still need to hook up the ground cable to the engine) to see what works. The Ron Francis trunk mounted battery kit has two ground gables one small short one that I have going to the body and a large long one that they want mounted to a bell housing bolt. So far the AC 3 blower speeds work, taillights, turn signals, and headlights.

I have a problem with the lights in the dash flashing when the key is off and the steering column harness is hooked up.

Been there, did exactly that with a 428 in a 1966 Fairlane GT. That was around 1970 when I had a whole lot more energy! Damn those shock towers.
If I knew then what I know now those towers would have been gone!

Same here. I bought a Cobra Jet one piece at a time at Downey Ford on my mothers Union 76 card for my'66 Fairlane GT. Somehow I thought she wouldn't mind!! My buddy's CJ Mustangs would get me on the top end but I'd kill them off the line. Man, I'd trade my '69 Mach I for a good '66 Fairlane GT......

I installed the battery ground cable from the trunk mounted battery to the engine block and cured most of my electrical problems.

Great work. Full ground & positive cable run to front always good piece of mind.
Extra weight's down low.
