1967 Vette

appreciate the compliments....havent dont a black one in a while. getting it buffed now.....has to be the suckiest part of doing a black car.

barry, i know he knows but for others, make sure it has the 065 connector mixed in with the toner....sikkens toner doesn't mix straight off the machine..has to have the connector/binder. lots of guys make that mistake. sikkens used to make a "jet black"..they still might. comes in qts.....a bit deeper than the 140 but can only tell with one of those fancy sun lights with them side by side.

great work!....how many coats of uv clear?...how long between coats?..what did you cut it with?

something i do on buffing that may or may not help but i feel it makes my job easier. when i get down to the trisac pads i use several drops of 3m super duty on the pad. it really cuts down on polishing time for me. it gets rid of all of the sanding marks and puts me way ahead from the start.

good idea shine! 3 coats of uv...about 30 min apart. started cutting with 800. finished with 2500. i'm using meguiars diamond cut and 3m wool pad.

just dont trust putting a da on this thing with these bodylines and curves. although i do use the trizac pads on alot of black and dark colored cars......but usually 2500 is plenty for the compound/pad setup i use.

i run the da at a really slow speed . with the trisac it really does not cut much but really puts me closer to where i want to be faster. next time you shoot one do a test panel and try it . you gotta remember i'm an old lazy fart and it there is a faster easier way i will sniff it out like a coon dog finds a coon .

Great point a little more advice would be re- mortgage the house before you go to pick up the gallon of black.
Man they are proud of that stuff!

lol yep! and just think thats the cheapest color there is. wouldn't be too bad if it was a 1-1 mix i suppose...lol! wanda is looking better and better every day!

buffing pretty much done! will do a final polish when the car is semi-done built. nothing i hate more than getting a car all polished out then have it almost ruined during the assembly process...especially black. i do the final polish before its delivered to the customer.

will post final pics of the car built...it is going to make a nice one.

JB, I got my sikens "auto base plus" yesterday and he sent me the blender to mix @ 2:1, not bad price wise, I did take out a 30 year mortgage on the house to pay for it.
With the blender, you don't add reducer, i trust? What do you do?

unless they mixed the blender/connector with reducer??

way i've always done it with using straight toner off the machine is: 3 parts toner, 1 part 065 connector. then reduce as normal 2-1. thats the way it says in the tech sheet also. hmm?

Guess I need to check with James son, I thought the binder was an option in stead of urethane reducer but may have misunderstood.
I just picked up a new rear bumper cover yesterday, so that will be good practice off the car before I tackle the whole thing.

Might just have to pay you to do it.

got the car back today for some final touchups and what not. will ship out to california wednesday...lets hope i have the hood cut, buffed and on the car by then! LOL

thanks. you know what makes this job is the wheels.

got so used to seeing it with those beater rollers......the rallyes and redlines make it.....amazing what a set of wheels and tires will do.
