My 1963 Ranchero project was originally code D, Ming Green. Since then it was painted school bus yellow, then painted turd brown, lol.

I would like to return to the Ming Green color EXCEPT with a nice modern pearl metallic look to it instead of the 60's metallic ( if you can call it that ).

Is it possible for someone to mix base coat that would do this? Or is it out of the question?

Thanks.

Any chance of them also calling the color aztec turquise or tahoe turquoise? I just looked up the color name and I couldn't find anything, but when i put in code d it came up with for 60-63 ford color, with those color names.

This color has a medium aluminum in it. The aluminums have a different look to them than what was probably in the color to begin with, that being said you don't want to take the aluminum out, it will drastically change the color, but what you could do is add some pearl to it to give it some flop. Without seeing the color i'm not sure what would look good in it, but I tend to prefer the xirrillic pearls. They are a little bit heavier and stronger. But might also be to much or over kill for what you are looking for.

i looked it up in diamont and found it called mint green. it has a medium aluminum in it like chad said. you could swap that out with medium star flake which is the same thing but slightly more pop to it. with that change made its comming up at $112 a quart. should cover really well though.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but I am not understanding all I am being told :(
I assume the aluminum is the metallic and changing to star flake is going to make it more "metallic". Adding a xirrillic pearl will not add metallic but will give a color shift. Is this correct?

Could we use the star flake AND add a xirrillic pearl that would give a color shift more towards green? (The future owners favorite color is green)

I really appreciate you guys answering my questions, it is truely awesome to be able to ask such "simple" questions and get real answers and NOT be belittled .

Yes sir I agree fully. That is what makes this site a cut above all the rest.

Yes you can also add a green xirillic pearl. Basically xirillic pearls are like metallics except they sparkle or look a certain color where the metallics/aluminum look or sparkle silver.

Is it possible to mix up a small quanity , say 8 oz. or less ? Or is that to small to be able to divide the mixing ration down to?

I think adding enough pearl to make a difference will require a re-balancing of the other toners, in essence, a custom formula.

I like the idea, but when I do them, I weigh all the additions and record them. Then, the color can be recreated.

I did that on a '72 F150, the color ended up with blue and gold pearl, as well as a medium metallic.

Crash is right but really depends on the amount of pearl you add. What really needs to happen is mix a few ounces of the original color to compare to when doing the custom one. This way the color doesnt get too far out of range and the proper adjustments can be made. I have no problem doing it for you but you may want to check with chad first to see if he has the right formula and since any color in his prospray system will be a little cheaper than in rm.

I am also curious if you really just need a different color by your comment in saying that you want more of a green. But sometimes you just need a little alteration to get what you are looking for also.

I was really surprised the cost difference, I knew there would be a difference but with the price increases I have seen I figure it would have been within $25.00 or so.

This is the color of code D on the Ranchero:

I think the future owner would like more green, she loves green. So if the Ming green can be more sparkely and have a green hi-light to it she would be one happy girl.

( If she had her way I would be painting it bright candy apple green, but you can't let a blonde always have her way, lol)

Chad, the cost for the actual color code is much cheaper and within about $20. The addition of starflake and xirillic drive the cost way up since those are both expensive.
