1963 Dodge Dart for the Wife....

Lol I love that blue Civic. Had same one as a first car.
Also I'm so jealous about the weather.
Your filling job looks good from what I see and know. What grid sandpaper do you use on hand block?

Just looked at photos one more time and noticed you working without gloves. I really suggest you to work only with gloves. I had couple bad nights after working without gloves

First layer, 80 grit to get get it close. Today with the first layer of glaze 150 grit to get the fine shapes. After high build next week will be 150 again then one one more epoxy seal coat then 320. The final coats will be in the 600 range since using metallic on this one. First attempt at an entire car with metallic.....

I do the same 80/180/320/600/800 on metallic blends. I wish I could use epoxy as a sealer

Sorry to hear about injuring your fingers. Been there, done that. Until it happens, how we take for granted the use our fingers provide us.

The car is looking good. Hopefully your injured hand is not your sanding hand and you heal as quickly as possible. ;)

Much nicer day though a bit cold... needed to open up the garage and blow the heat from the house into it for the next 12 hours to make sure the SPI epoxy primer sets. It needs 65F and it was only 51F but after firing up a heater and blowing house air into the garage for 30 minutes it's up to 61F. Glad I insulated the garage when we built the house.

Just more glaze and blocking. I really like that air flat board, it makes quick work of getting this 90% solution. Next weekend we can shoot high build and really start blocking for the money finish!

Cool day but no rain! Time to start on this side today....

150 Grit day.

I love the dedication and family involvement! Though a separate source of garage heat might be more ideal. Also, you might have a low spot above your fuel door. Haha, easy for me to be picky, seeing what you get done in days what takes us months! Kudos to you sir! :D

Oh that is not the ONLY low spot crash :)..... I only have the weekends so there needs to be a schedule and plan to make sure we are set up to not waste the following weekend waiting for the epoxy to dry! Yes it would be ideal but for the number days I would need it here I can think of other things to buy! I typically would not have sprayed but like I said the schedule shows I spray the high build next weekend so the epoxy needed to get put down. The wife is cracking the whip she wants to drive this thing.

No rain this weekend, perfect weather..... Round 3......

Ever have those days you get a lot MORE done than you planned? They don't happen often! Got the valance blasted, straightened, cleaned and epoxied. Same with the trunk. Another hidden surprise. I have not idea how those dents could have been created.... Jolly Green Giant teeth marks? I then shot on 2 coat of high build and that was going to be my day... but it was only 2pm! So I started blocking and ended up getting both sides blocked and another 2 coats of high build ready for blocking tomorrow.... If I can get out of bed......

Seems like someone here said there was a low spot by the gas cap.... There is. :)

You block till you see everything is a dull gray or you hit metal than stop fast you need more high build. It got a little to warm out and the high build started to dry spray on the last coat... most of it will be sanded off so no harm done...

Talked to @Barry this morning and learned something I don't think I knew, glaze can go over the high build. That little piece of information saved me a weekend!

Knock on wood but day 2 of bliss..... Round 4 Done! She is very very very straight. Just had a couple of places to build up. Tomorrow shoot high build in the areas that I added glaze, sand and shoot the next to final coats of epoxy to make a strong base for the color. This time I got serious about building up the body lines straight. She is likely straighter than the day she left the factory right now

Working hard on the truck and valance tomorrow to, we should be able to get them almost to the same state with some luck.

Secret tool..... Threaded rod wrapped with 180 grit to get the tight curve in the body line perfect.

The hood is a good candidate for a hood scoop... it is bad but fixable with a little work....

IDK where you do have energy to do that. Usually after work I come home dead inside and outside. And I'm 30. You are doing great job
