1931 Packard 833 468 Coupe

Chad,

I sure am. Shot a few coats of epoxy on the rear fenders yesterday. Was suppose to be off this whole week but have a last minute work trip. So I am hoping to get back at them this weekend to do some final mud work and then a few coats of high build let set in sun for a few days, sand and see where I am at a final coat of epoxy then top coat with SPI SS Black. Hopefully weather will be on my side. :)

Front fenders will have to wait until next Springs. Weather will be starting to change here soon. :(

I can't say much i'm still trying to finish my truck, but I haven't touched it since the weather got nice, i've been so busy this year, no time to think but it's getting cool again so i'll be back to it and hopefully back on the forum occasionally as well.

1931 Packard 833 468 Coupe: Rear fenders under Coated with SPI Bed Liner

Yesterday I sprayed the SPI bed liner on the underside of the fenders.

Was going to brush it on but I did not like the way it was brushing. So I decided to put the 2.2 tip in the HF purple gun I use for spraying the High Build and Epoxy with and this is the results I got out of it. It turned out pretty decent I must say.

1931 Packard 833 468 Coupe: Rear fenders Painted with SPI SS Black

After going hog wild yesterday spraying the undersides.

Late today (after Bears game) I got the topside sprayed with SPI SS Black.

Will get some better pictures tomorrow with some natural light on them.

Some progress on the rims. Have then stained and first cost of Satin Spar Urethane. In a day or two I will lightly sand them with 220 and then put another coat of Spar Urethane but that coat will be gloss.

Once I have the wood portion finished I will tape them off so I could sand the metal portion, epoxy prime, a few coats of SPI Single Stage Black and they should be ready for tires which I still need to order.

First two picture are without flash last one is with flash.

Looking good. Why not use univerrsal clear on the wood? I have several projcects like my whole dining room set for example that I regret using spar urethane on. After I tried UV on wood the first time I swore to never use spar again (except small stuff).

Strum,

Was thinking about some spray clear but this is what I had on hand. Could I spray it later if I decide to now that I have the Spar on there?

I think it would lift the spar varnish because it is air dry single component non catalyzed. Even laquer will lift the spar urethane

Some more progress on the rims. We did our traditional fourth of July at Indiana home. Got back home on Thursday morning so I spent most of the after noon, evening and Friday prepping the rims for epoxy primer and SPI SS Black.

Got up early on Saturday did 4 rims and on Sunday did 2 rims. Each rim I sprayed two coats of epoxy primer let it setup for about four hours then sprayed 3 coats of the black.

Last week I order tires from Universal and I received them on Tuesday two days earlier then I expected them to arrive. So now that I have the tires, rims all painted they are almost ready to go. I just need to get the snap rings off to the platter and get them platted and then they will be ready for the new skins.web4103.jpg

Looks really nice, two more fenders to paint and you're done?

Bob,

Yes two more fenders and major painting should be complete.

I do have an issue with the left rear fender. I notice some tiny bubbles yesterday starting to show and I am not sure what is causing them to show now. The right rear is fine. Both fenders had the same prep and painted on the same day etc.

Will take some close-ups tonight of the left rear and post them to see what you all think it may be.
