    Do you take credit cards?

As a small shop do you take card payments? As much as I like cash I'm thinking it might open up more business (not that I need it) but also make handling transactions less work than running to the bank all the time.

    Customer appreciation "Cars and Coffee"

Been doing this for a while and thought it would be cool to have all the project cars over for a get together. Everyone showed up and we had a great time. Most had only seen just pictures of the other cars and they had never met each other. Maybe do it again next year, they really enjoyed it...

    Restoring car after fire damage

Have an acquaintance that had a garage fire that consumed a 70ish trans am. I've never dealt with a car fire restoration. IF the panels are not warped is the metal ok to restore? I know most would just consider it a total loss and more on but he's a huge Pontiac buff and I'm told it was a...

Found run in epoxy sealer-after base and clear

Any tips on repairing this? Pretty sure it's a run in the sealer. Never saw it until after base and clear were done. Very sure it's not the clear. Sealer was done Friday night 6/5, base yesterday and clear today. Really don't want to reclear the whole car. The paint is still fresh so I'm...

    Smoothing cast alumnum for paint

I'm going to strip and repaint these valve covers but with a smooth straight finish. So I have a couple ideas on how to make that happen. Use body filler to fill and smooth or Use polyprimer to fill and smooth or Die grinder to get out texture and then smooth w/ poly primer Any thoughts?

Tips for a show quality paint on a complex frame

Owner wants a show quality finish on the Art Morrison chassis for the '57 I'm working on. If that's not enough it's going to be a metallic grey. It's the same color I've used before and I'm thinking this is going to be very difficult to pull off. I shot two coats of epoxy today and not sure how...

Factory lap seam on new quarter panels

I just got in two new quarter panels for the '57 I'm working on. They are for a coupe so they have the complete rear window frame and post. According to Woody's, the manufacturer has to make them in two pieces (you can see the vertical seam over the wheel opening). They are too big to stamp...

    Found rust under Ecoat

I know it's been debated on whether to remove ecoat or just sand it an move on. I tend to err on the conservative side and sand it all off at least on the outside of all the panels. Granted I've never found an issue with it - until recently. I DA'd the new aftermarket hood and fenders for...

"Lazer Straight" body work just a myth?

So I'm just starting on a '57 Bel Air. The owner want's it black and it's going to be a trailer queen show car. His instructions are - "do it like it was your car". So that being said, I'm thinking ahead to how to align the body panels so they flow together. and are "lazer straight" But is...

Mix up my own single stage

So my son has a side job making a sign trailer and I told him I'd paint it. I happen to have a quart of SPI yellow and plenty of SPI clear laying around. So I'm thinking of using Barry's formula of pre mixing the clear and base separately and then combining them to make single stage. No cut...

    Prepping steel angle for paint

My son has a potential side project to build a large A frame type sign structure. He wants me to paint it which is no problem. What do I need to do to the hot rolled steel to prep it? I'm hoping not remove the mill scale as that is a large undertaking and the budget for the project won't...

    Fitting a ffiberglass/steel hood

This is a fiberglass hood with a steel liner. It's very nice and well built. However, the contour of the hood is just a little off from the fenders. I have it adjusted as best that can be done, but the hood is about a 1/8" low in the middles of both sides while flush at the front and back...

    Injection Molded Fiberglass?

So my buddy bought this new repop 442 hood for the '69 cutlass I'm doing body and paint on. They say it's injection molded fiberglass. It is a nice piece and the fiberglass is smooth on both sides. It came boxed very well but one corner has a small crack though that I need to fix. The say...

window to paint over SPI bedliner?

Sprayed clear SPI bedliner over two coats of epoxy. It's been a couple of days since spraying the bedliner, is it too late to spray speckle paint over the bedliner?

Harbor Frieght Refrigerated air dryer review

I see a lot of posts about moisture problems and fish eyes, etc. I had the same problems and got so frustrated I bit the bullet about nine moths ago and picked up one of these units (based of some good feedback from this site and some others). Got to say I'm VERY satisfied (so far) with this...

Bedliner to coat entire bottom of floor or......

So I got a gallon of SPI bedliner (one on the last gallons to be shipped :sorrow: ) to undercoat the underside of a '69 Cutlass I'm working on. Also have black epoxy to spray on the sandblasted old metal and new floor pans that I put in. The owner is on board with the bedliner on the entire...

UV clear with a 1.3 tip?

I double downed on a Sata 4000 with a 1.3 tip and it's awesome. Spayed base with it and the gun shot so nice it was worth every penny. Followed up with my Iwata LPH for the clear and it worked fine. But am doing another all over in the next couple weeks and am thinking of using the Sata with...

bodwork / paint on aluminum body?

I have a friend that is a metal shaper that built an aluminum replica from scratch. The body is aluminum and he was asking me about painting it but is concerned about any filler work (although minor) telegraphing do to the high expansion rate of the aluminum panels. Obviously the aluminum is...

    Are factory colors extra vibrant?

Although I have limited experience painting, it seems that when I spray factory colors they turn out more vibrant than the original oem production paint job. For instance, I've painted a few cars and done more paint spray out samples of different oem colors and it always seems like the the...

    Factory Five Cobra Replica

Did the bodywork and paint for a local guy. The car was complete and road worth when he brought it over, but the glass needed a lot of work. Custom hood latches, relocated trunk latch, fiberglass repair around side pipe exits (caught fire), rolled fender lips, full SPI bed liner undercoating...
