    Do you take credit cards?

As a small shop do you take card payments? As much as I like cash I'm thinking it might open up more business (not that I need it) but also make handling transactions less work than running to the bank all the time.

    With hesitation

Wow that's big news, congratulations Barry! Although I don't know whether to praise you or curse you! I got turned on to SPI over 15 years ago on my first real project and the demand for my services has grown ever since. I'll never forget having fish eye issues and Barry helping to walk me...

    Customer appreciation "Cars and Coffee"

Been doing this for a while and thought it would be cool to have all the project cars over for a get together. Everyone showed up and we had a great time. Most had only seen just pictures of the other cars and they had never met each other. Maybe do it again next year, they really enjoyed it...

    Restoring car after fire damage

Thanks for the replies, I think it might be salvageable. Might need a new roof skin though I couldn't tell it's condition being on the lift but it looks like a lot of heat from above from the structure fire. Not real familiar with whats available for the T/A but maybe just get aftermaket...

    Restoring car after fire damage

Have an acquaintance that had a garage fire that consumed a 70ish trans am. I've never dealt with a car fire restoration. IF the panels are not warped is the metal ok to restore? I know most would just consider it a total loss and more on but he's a huge Pontiac buff and I'm told it was a...

    Best method to strip paint

A little late the party but I'm sold on stripping disks. I'm sure some of the other methods mentioned in the post might be a better approach but this has worked very well for me I got a pack of 10 off amazon for about $40. I like that they don't gum up, are aggressive enough to strip quickly...

Found run in epoxy sealer-after base and clear

Any tips on repairing this? Pretty sure it's a run in the sealer. Never saw it until after base and clear were done. Very sure it's not the clear. Sealer was done Friday night 6/5, base yesterday and clear today. Really don't want to reclear the whole car. The paint is still fresh so I'm...

    Still having epoxy adhesion issues

Yes that is an odd situation. How ironic is that when you spill some on a dirt greasy floor, it's there forever! Although I will confess I've had this happen when the epoxy was too cold and didn't cure enough, the filler acted like paint remover and I was able to peel the epoxy and filler...

    Removing powdercoating

I found the paint stripping discs work really well, faster than stripper or blasting (at least with my equipment).

    Epoxy over powder coat ?

Timely post. Looking to do a color change on PC chassis and I think I've come up with a quick and easy way to prep it. This PC is so tough my light duty sand blaster gives it a nice textured finish with out stripping the PC. And even if it does, it's will be sound foundation for the epoxy...

Shop compressor air dryer for DIY resto projects

I guess I missed all the drama. HF drier been hooked up for 3 years or so - no problem other than the automatic drain getting clogged (replaced it with a 2' length of 1-1/2" pipe on the wall with drain valve). Cool dry air all time, even under continuous use sand blasting. Discharge from the...

Tips for a show quality paint on a complex frame

Guess I never followed up on this. Frame and suspension came out pretty good. I was a little tricky trying to keep a wet edge . For the final coat of clear, I started on the top side of the frame and finished on the bottom. That way any dry spray wouldn't show from below and would be hidden...

    Smoothing cast alumnum for paint

Well that was easy. Turns out most of the texture was in the factory paint. Same paint that was on the block (brand new GM crate 572). Once I stripped it, the actual castings were pretty smooth. Couple coats of poly and the texture was gone. I could have called it good, but after block...

    Smoothing cast alumnum for paint

Thanks JL, didn't even know we had that option on the new and improved SPI forum. Did a little research and turns out direct links to pics isn't supported by google photos so that why it won't work anymore.

    Smoothing cast alumnum for paint

Ugh still not working eh? Been posting pics on forums for years and never had problem. Everything was on Google "picasa" and Google dropped it and migrated all my pics over the Google "photos" and now I cant't figure out why pics won't post.

Holding door when blocking across gaps

I tape pieces of stir sticks stacked up in the door jamb so the door has a hard stop to push against. The latch keeps it from moving out.

    Smoothing cast alumnum for paint

I'm going to strip and repaint these valve covers but with a smooth straight finish. So I have a couple ideas on how to make that happen. Use body filler to fill and smooth or Use polyprimer to fill and smooth or Die grinder to get out texture and then smooth w/ poly primer Any thoughts?
