    polisher/buffer

I guess I have some “tool snob” in me… tend to go overboard when I need to buy new toys, even when I’m sure cheaper crap would serve fine for the limited use I will give them. I didn’t even realize they had released a newer version of the forced RO Flex until I saw a Mike Phillips...

    polisher/buffer

I’m a newbie and couldn’t make up my mind so ended up with both. The Rotary is what works for the serious paint correction but I like the RO for the polishing stage. Cordless would have been nice but the the length of time I’ve found myself working I know I would need a lot of expensive...

Info/help needed on Cut and Buff

Here’s a thread I had started regarding the final Cut & Buff where member responses provided exactly the info and detail I needed. http://www.spiuserforum.com/index.php?threads/final-sanding-buffer-selection-pads-compounds-and-information-overload….10201/

It’s 12’x20’. Got it on sale 5 years ago and is the best $170 I ever spent. I put it up and take it down several times a year by myself, although it is definitely easier if I have help. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K1Q2MSA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 One of those...

Ha ha. Yeah, I’m acused by my wife of being a member of the hobby of the month club. Even retired I don’t have time for all the stuff I like to do. The one advantage to having the house in FL is that I can fish several days a week until I’m sick of it then go to the cabin and work on the...

I’m jealous of the expansive spaces some of you guys have to work with. I’ve included some photos of what my space looked like 7 years ago and how it’s changed as I have been slowly progressing through the restoration with my space constraints…. Used to be clean and neat, and now stuff is...

    Aluminum polishing & protection advice

Yeah, that’s the 2nd gen AIV. They switched to the Ford 4.6 engine and because it was taller had to add the ugly hood scoop. The one I have as far as I know, is the only one of the original 44, other than the prototype, which did not have bumpers.

    Aluminum polishing & protection advice

Yes, I’m stocked with the papers, compounds, and pads to follow Jim’s method when I begin in the spring. His suggestion to use the ceramic coating to maintain the polish was one I would have never thought of. The Panoz Roadster is one of the original 44, but it has many unique features not...

    Aluminum polishing & protection advice

Thanks. I’ve got an ancient container of Mother’s out there now. Didnt know of the old-school stuff still held its own against the new products.

    Sand/Burn through on sharp edges

Thanks. I haven’t started yet and was always wondering how you get it to look right if you don’t do some (careful) cutting and buffing all the way to the edge… You do such amazing worko_O

    Aluminum polishing & protection advice

Not a paint related question but I’ve received such helpful advice here in the past that I thought I would ask to see if anyone has some experience and suggestions. I just purchased a new toy. the main body is polished aluminum. Was never painted like the other production models. What are...

    Sand/Burn through on sharp edges

That’s a great tip. If you are doing that during the buffing process, do you just make a pass over with the pad to then remove the remainIng sharpie ink? Or some solvent to remove when the buffing is complete?

Final sanding, buffer selection, pads, compounds, and Information Overload….

Yeah, they have definitely been working hard on changing their image the past few years. I have no doubt that a lot of their stuff is manufactured alongside some of the name brands and receive a different color and label. I’ve bought a lot of stuff from them over the years even though I tend...
