    adhesion questions

Is there a scientific way of measuring adhesion difference between urethane vs epoxy for applying base coat over top? That is, what test have proven epoxy is better, and by how much?

    adhesion questions

How much better is epoxy adhesion compared to urethane adhesion? Is urethane adhesion better wet on wet? I would prefer to spray over a dried finish, less solvent for dye back and less mils and chance of dust etc. I would think spraying over wet epoxy, being a slow product would create...

    adhesion questions

So, after 36hrs epoxy should be recoated before applying basecoat? I used to do it up to 7 days and haven't had any issues. Shine, how long do you wait to apply first coat of base, after you apply your first coat of epoxy as a sealer? Are you mixing 1:1:1? How much adhesion/bond is lost by...

    adhesion questions

So, why does this happen? Why can base be applied over sanded urethane, but not sanded epoxy? Both being several weeks old.... And what yields the best adhesion, my guess if fresh epoxy, but why? Why isn't there a mechanical bond on sanded epoxy, beyond 36hrs?

    adhesion questions

Just to confirm: Scenario 1: Month+ cured 2k urethane primer sanded 400-600 scratch. Scenario 2: Month+ cured epoxy primer sanded 400-600 scratch activated base coat may be applied over cured sanded urethane, but not cured sanded epoxy, both with the same scratch size? ***** both...

    Spraying Kandy

I appreciate all of the help! I'm still not 100% sure, ideally I'd like to find a color that looks like tangerine kandy, but without the hassle of the candy. I have also been told that kandy paint doesn't last as long as a pigmented paint...is this true? thanks guys!

    Spraying Kandy

Hi guys, those of you that spray Kandy/candy paint, do you always walk the entire vehicle? My concern is how you mask the jamb areas, so that the kandy dye doesn't leave a darker line on the inside of the jamb. Is it ok to panel paint everything at once, but separated, off the vehicle. That is...

    curing lamp

Thank you for your help guys, I think I'll go with a Infratech medium wave, they are priced more reasonable than the short wave and operate on 120 volts.

    curing lamp

HI guys, do you find that the medium wave work ok, or am I better off getting a short wave? Most of the short wave are 220 volt, and wouldn't be as portable as a 120 volt unit. What do you guys recommend? I'm looking for something to speed things up during the winter months. Something that will...

    painting emblems

Hi guys, just wanted to know what you use to paint exterior emblems. I'm working on a Toyota Sequoia that has gold exterior emblems that are fading. What type of paint would make them look correct, or do I just need knew emblems? thank you

    clear coat

I had an error with a blotchy spot in my base, and customer wants it repaired. I thought I read somewhere that fresh, few day old clear can be cleared over without sanding or scuffing...is this true? I've always resanded before applying any more base or clear.

White Epoxy Primer in Engine Bay & Interior

Jim, have you had similar experiences with other color epoxies losing their luster over time?

    New Bumper Prep

Hi guys, how are you prepping your aftermarket, already primed bumper covers? I typically clean with 700, scuff with scuff paste and gray scotch pad, thoroughly clean with 700, epoxy as a sealer and then base/clear. Do you guys ever add adhesion promotor over aftermarket bumpers that have been...

    Compressor oil

As Jim stated compressor oil is non detergent. I believe that non detergent is a better lubricant than detergent oil. There isn't a need for detergents, as it's a non combustion pump, and therefore, no byproducts of combustion for detergents to be necessary.
