Compounds make a lot of difference in first cut and a polyurethane is not going too buff good with a foam pad.
Reason hood looks better than roof the foam left scratches in the first cutting that you can't see.

There is no cut and dried answer on epoxy but I use to try and keep base being applied no longer than 24 hours and now after extensive testing I seem to be throwing out the 3 day deal with no sanding.

One was Marina blue and other LA-Ferrari blue.
I test the epoxy by soaking in a 5 gallon bucket every 2 years or so and every 2 weeks or so pull out panel, wipe off and stick back in.
The clear I have not tested since we backed out of aviation years ago, so thought why not.
