Fixing Base after Clear

I based my roof yesterday after a sealer of 25% reduced Epoxy and today while Clearing (UV) 1st coat lint from my glove got into my Clear in 2 places, I tried to use reducer to removed the sticky lint and clear and removed the base also. Well I went ahead and finished 3 coats of Clear with plans to fix the base and respray more clear after sanding with 600. In the past Ive had problems with the base wrinkling when trying to spray over clear. What is the process I should take to avoid wrinkling Base?

Unless you break through the clear while sanding with 600, then you should not have any issues with the basecoat wrinkling when respraying. You can apply base directly to clear with no issues. Also, activating the basecoat helps to prevent wrinkling and other reactions when making repairs later down the road when you do have to sand through back down to the base again. Me personally, if I ever break through the clear when sanding I will shoot some primer over that spot and then sand smooth before respraying.

Just makes me wonder if the clear was fully cured before fixing and if the solvent was getting out and wrinkling the new base. The only bad wrinkle we got was when we did not turn off the fan after spraying clear on our first job.

Wednesday I sanded the clear with 600 and sanded the link out and it was down to the base, I sprayed a reduced epoxy on the spots that were sanded heavily (down to the base) and later rebased. One spot that I didnt re epoxy I sprayed the base and it wrinkled all the way down to the original epoxy under the base. Well I was able to peel the wrinkle off and sanded but shot strait epoxy to build the area and the epoxy wrinkled more of the clear. I resanded the entire roof with 600 and will put in the sun for a couple days before proceeding.

Wow, I have never had any of those issues. I do activate my base coat though.

Maybe Barry will chime in here and set us straight?
