LPH400 orange vs silver fan size?

Guys,
I've had a silver cap in 1.4 for a long time very happy with it. Some time ago I bought a used orange cap gun in 1.3 with the thought of dedicating it to base and my silver to clear. Used the orange cap for the first time recently and was immediately disappointed with the fan size. I benchmarked the two guns at the same pressure swapping the caps back and forth. The silver cap gave a fan size of about 10-11 inches at a distance of just over 5 inches. The orange cap gave 8-9 inches under the same conditions. regardles of which gun they were on. Fan and fluid wide open on both guns, about 20psi at the gun trigger pulled.

Is this your experience too? If so, I'm not sure the orange cap is for this weekend warrior.

The orange cap will give you a smaller, wetter fan. That's just the way it was designed. So I guess it's up to you if you like that for basecoat or stick to the silver air cap.

I have a purple cap that's a much smaller fan, I like it for
touch-ups and small parts painting.
It's great for blending.
But the silver is much better for complete panels for me.

Strangely though, the Iwata official yap statess 11.2" for the silver and 12.4" for the orange! I can't see how regardless of settings I could get the orange cap to give a bigger fan at the same distance.

Anybody else other than Jorge use both orange and silver? I would really like to hear your impressions of the orange cap fan size.
