Fixing to to move into the Blairsville area.

Steve s.

We're fixing to pack up soon & move into the area. Currently looking at houses in the "triangle" between Blairsville, Murphy,NC & Hayesville,NC. I have friends in the area & have visited numerous times a yr over the past 10 yrs & love the area & the people. I'll be asking lots of questions for any of the "locals" about where to find/buy this or that. I'm currently selling off 25 yrs worth of accumulated collections, cars, parts etc.

yeah. I'll fit right in!

How's life been treatin' you buddy?? It's been awhile...

old age and treachery keeping them at bay. trying not to sew my fingers together . getting closer to starting a new project. really ready for something new.

We're just south of Blairsville near Skeenah Gap and 60. We love the area from Blue Ridge to Hiawassee.

This is a great place!
Looking forward to meeting you not sure the price range you are looking in but Andy an expert as far as housing and areas around Blairsville.
Also have an employee who lives in Hayesville if you need advice.
Also chose a realtor with care there are a few crooks here.
I commute 83 miles each way from Canton.

Also not sure if you looking for a job but know of a super high quality shop in Blue-ridge looking for a body guy.
All restorations and street rod builds, four man shop and he needs a good guy now he said.

funny, blairsville must be a popular place. i just had this conversation with andy about 2 months ago. i've been looking for a second place. vacation or maybe move full time in a few years. maybe something on or near a lake. been looking anywhere around that area where ga, tenn, sc meet. blairsville is right in there. its on my list to make it down there soon to just drive around for a week and check out different areas.

If I had to guess, 60% of this town is Flordia retires, 20% from northern states that retired here.

Jim don't tell any of your Yankee friends about it though.;) If it's anything like Smith Mountain Lake near me. It started shortly after the movie "What about Bob" came out. (They filmed it there) So many Yankees have moved into the area that home prices have skyrocketed, taxes increased, and unwittingly they bring down many of the problems that they left wherever they were before, (High taxes, high cost of living) by running for local government and wanting to do things "like they did back home". Ughh.

Check out some of these prices.

lol i have looked around sml as well. whole point to eventually move is to get away from this crap up here. why people would want to drag this crap down there is beyond me. taxes are beyond retarded, prob 10 times what they are down south and govt is involved in every single thing you do. drives me nuts. i lived in ga for a couple years while i was in the military. was great down there.

funny, just looked at your link. the first 3 most expensive places that have a price tag of 25m-5m, my property taxes are almost as much as those for just your average size home.

Lake property here is expensive especially deep water lots but there are some good buys on the lake here and there.
$400,000 to 4-6 mil.
The nice part this county is the lowest in GA for property taxes the SPI taxes for the building is about $3000 a year with a 50% value rating (of county appraisal ) so I pay taxes on around 600,000 the 50% .
Where I live that would be $5000.

cant beat that barry. i bet my taxes are more than the spi building, andy's house and your house put together. i just got a letter in the mail that they are going to come in and reassess the whole town also so expect things should go up even more. we are actually a rural town that has very low taxes compared to surrounding areas. average mid size house in a development, nothing special here is into 5 digits per year. its getting me irritated just thinking about it lol

At home, we live in a bedroom community of north Atlanta, and taxes on the house was always higher than the plant but at 62 you can apply for an exemption to bail out on the school taxes in this state and now this year our bill will be about 1,000 to 1200.
Both Canton and Blairsville do have some of the highest state ratings for quality of schools. I think Blairsville is In top three of state, not sure.

After numerous weekend trips to look, think we may have found one thats right in our strike zone on the east side of the lake below Hayesville. Hard to find something with enough flat ground to build a garage. Everything flat seems to be in a valley & most are in FEMA flood plains. Most of what we have seen so far, if flooding isn't an issue the Mrs. just doesn't like the house. We went back last weekend for a second look at the one on top of the list & it pretty much checks all the right boxes for both of us. Property taxes are about 1/2 what they are here now. A new assessment has been in the works, so am sure they will be even higher than what they are now.
