DA SANDER? WICH ONE TO GET

D

Danny23

I have been looking for a 6" DA sander but im a little confuse in what to get,, do i get one with 5/16,3/16 or 3/32 or it doesn't matter the much?

5/16 is OK for paint removal but for finishing sanding either a 3/16 or 3/32 will work fine. I use a 3/16 when using 3000 and 5000 grit. Just be careful not to capture anything under the pad when fine sanding or else you'll get the pigtails. Check often and keep the pads clean. I leave the music off when fine sanding so as to listen for any telltale sounds of something suddenly caught under the sanding pad.

Yea gad bad experience with pig tails using the 1500 purple disc never using those again plus dont last,, using Eagle for sure after i get some more info on my other post,,,
thanks for the info any other good better price DA i was looking at the 3M like $200 i think is good price

My favorite sander is my Snap-on but it was pricey. I also have a Ingersoll Rand 4151 and a Hutchens Pro Finisher. The Ingersoll was pretty cheap and its a descent sander I just don't like were the speed adjuster is seems like I'm always hitting it with my thumb. The Hutchens pro finisher I only had a couple of months and so far like it real well. Its not as comfortable as my Snap-on but its still pretty nice. I thank I've seen them for around $150-160 but I not for sure cause when I bought mine my jobber had a deal going where if you bought a certain dollar amount of a particular body filler you could get the sander for $79. For the record though I've never used a 3m sander, its probably good to.

Its cheaper than I remembered. For the money its a nice sander I like it a lot better than my Ingersoll.

AHP has one on amazon for around 54.00. I had just been getting the harbor freights, turning them in within the year time if you pay for the warranty, but I have been in there 20 minutes waiting for them to call corporate. The AHP has a nice thumbwheel dial to lower pressure.

We bought the IR sander, the pin for the valve got stuck in.

I have a HF but i want a good decent brand sonewhere in the $100-200 and with the right orbit to sand before buffing i can use my HF for the other stuff....

I'm using a Craftsman DA palm sander with a 3/16" travel and it has been working very well and is not an air hog. I only use that when using Trizact 3000/5000. It was a little over $100. For paint removal I use an DeWalt variable speed electric sander that runs about $70.

The main thing with the ATP though, is they actually sold the backup pads with hook and loop so you dont have to glue on a hook tape to catch the loops. The Harbor Freight models have metric threads, the ATP had the 5-16-24 thread and replacement pads. That ended up being an important decision after not being able to get a hook and loop for the harbor freight deal and watching new discs fly off the sander. It does not take too many times of sanding without a disc to kill the hook side.

The ATD sander was a 2088, the pads were 2076 for hook and loop and 2078 for stick on

Hook and loop is what i need ,,, how good are the ATD do they last?

I mis wrote it a few times, it is ATD. We have only had if for a month or so, so far used it with 36 grit, 120 180 220 and Trizac wet sanding, its really a nice piece.

I have had alot of luck with their line of Diagnostic junk, fuel injector cleaner fittings and such, balancer puller, but it honestly just looks like a packaged chinese piece, but considering the eagle and Deerfos sanding discs out there, it all comes from the same place. I just really like the little thumb wheel that lets you reduce the pressure and slow it down without having to use a regulator at the wall or add a valve to the sander and make it heavier.. I will probably buy one or two more when this one goes before giving up.

Autobodytoolmart has the hutchins for 10% off if you go that route. Their comparable one is 152.

Autobodytoolmart is like 20 min away..im gonna look into the hunchins..actually i didnt know it was one.close to me.till.last week lol i always order online.

i have 3 3m sanders. had them since 3m first started making them....so about 6 years now i guess. great sanders. lightweight and balanced very well so they dont numb your hand. have a couple dynabrades as well. also very nice but more expensive and i dont see where they are better than the 3m. i use my 3m's every day. and for god sake dont buy a 3/32. your just pissing your time away. 3/16 is what you want.

Lol yea i have read you comments on other post 3/16 is what im getting on 3M or hunchins.
Jim wich one do you recomend for 3M and they come with the hook pad or you buy it separate and the other im looking is hunchins is about $140 both with hook pad is what i need.

I have a red and blue Hutchins. Red is aggressive and blue is a pro-finisher. I've had them for years and I don't oil them properly. I have a dynabrade also with a 3" pad. Good tools and I'm sure the 3m is good also.

I bought an ATD on special from the local jobber. It was so loud that I took a hammer and put it out of it's misery. Cheap junk and my ears would ring for an hour after using it.

I think you can get the 3m with whatever pad you like but dont quote me. Only thing i have hutchins is their air file. Good tools, very heavy but not sure if that holds true anymore. I agree with the cheap sanders. I have a cheap hf pro sander. It works and isnt loud but your hand is numb after using it. Not smooth like the good sanders.

Can't go wrong with the Dynabrade 21035. I've got a couple of those. I also like the old Hutchins sanders with handles, #4560 and 4500. I've had the 4560 for 25 years (first one I ever bought) and it's still going strong. They are built like tanks. You can still get both. Plus they are made in the USA.
