U-POL RAPTOR same as CUSTOM COAT bed liner?

I posted this on the hot rod forum as well.
I know that SPI makes a good or even the best bed liner, but for me to use it including the purchase of the gun was way more than I wanted to spend. I am using all SPI products everywhere else on my project.

Need your opinion,

I ordered my bed liner kit from TCP global. After all of my research the u-pol Raptor was what I could afford and the quality looked good + it had good reviews. What happened is that I got confused and ordered the “custom Coat” bed liner instead. So now my question is whether I should pay the shipping to send what I have back and reorder the “Raptor” and pay all of the shipping fees over or are they enough near the same product that I should just keep what I have. The tech guy at TCP global said the were the same....sorta.
I asked him for the MSDS sheet on what they sent me. I will TRY to decide if they are the same. He said I could get the “u-pol” MSDS info on line. Problem is I am not sure that will tell me much and that is why I am asking you my all knowing brothers:) What you think.
I must be slipping further faster than I thought because I stepped in it again....this stuff is getting old and expensive:)
So my question is “RAPTOR” or “CUSTUM COAT” ?
Thanks,
Doug

Use it, with those types of bed liners they are all pretty much the same.

Hi Barry,
Thanks for the reply. I had assumed that you were monitoring the SAGA in Oregon which is my project.

BTW, have you ever thought of offering one of the $40 bed liner guns to someone who only needs it to use one it time..like me? I would be glad to pay for it up front, use it to apply your product and send it back to you. When you receive it back CLEAN and in GOOD working order refund the $40 or keep $5 for the “gun fund” and send back $35?
You will have sold a gal of bed liner and I would have saved $40...just a thought:) Not trying to run your business:)

What are the added costs to use a gal of your bed liner Hardener? Reducer? Gun? Other?
I could send back whet I have and go with your bed liner...what I have was not cheap. Do you think that it would be worth it for me to even consider that.

I would like to call you again but I need to set up a better hearing situation on my end.
Please feel free to reply when you see one of my posts. I have posted on the “hot-rod” forum as well.
I am getting very good counsel from very knowledgeable people. I find that for me to understand their reply I need to ask the question in a certain way. Does that make sense?
I still struggle with some of the terms used IE, poly this or scratch coat that or urethane the other etc. but I will get it.

BTW, I would except an e-mail from you or anyone (dougotio at gmail dot com )

More later & thanks again,

Doug, You are one of the nicest guys I have spoken to and I saw your post and just did not feel right in saying anything.
In the nicest way I can, here is a fact.
The best bodyman in the world cannot do body work all over vehicle, coat it with a coat of epoxy and expect the vehicle to be straight, when you told me on the phone you were against the clock and was skipping the 2K prime and blocking process, I knew you were going to be in big trouble, If i was asked, I would have point blank told you. Since you did do this this way and you did not base and clear but shot the SS, was the better move. Block with 180, lay three coats of primer, block with 180, lay three more coats of primer and block again, great paint jobs = how many hours of blocking took place before the paint applied.
Sorry on the gun but i don't loan tools.

Hi Barry,
Thank you so much for your reply. I hope you have seen that in every one of my more lengthy posts I tired to make the point that you have been most helpful.
I also said that this was all on me. I did have my back next to the wall. but as it turned out I could have ordered my SS base from you as the project has sat since I applied the "scratch coat" of white. I have the 2k primer I bought from you and thought I would use it.
The weather turned cold and I lost my last opportunity to finish the project up.

Now that I have shared my "mea culpa" with the world. I appreciate what you say and will use your council moving forward. I have received very good advise form others of which I am thankful.
I feel confident that I understand the process better now. I plan to just do one panel at a time because I can tent it and add some heat.

I wish I had purchased your bed liner now....you know what the say about hindsight:)

I certainly understand about not loaning tools....in fact I felt foolish for posting what I did because the very next day you announced that you were getting out of the bed liner business. That is too bad because from the posts that I have read those pros who are using your bed liner are all a dither about what to do now.

I have learned a good lesson and I hope there are others who will learn from my mistakes. If all us NUBEES can come out of this just a little smarter than we were, it won't have been a total loss. I am retired and have a lot more time than I do money.

I have never minded having a foul-up, my frustration comes in finding out how to fix the foul-up. Once I learn how to fix it, then I am good to go again....happy as a clam...like they say:)

I feel good about how to proceed now.

You and everyone have been very helpful.

Thanks again,
Doug

Thank you Doug and as always call if I can help.

The hardest thing doing the tech line is helping the first timers because in the learning process they do a lot in internet searching and they see these ads by company's that target the do-it-yourself people who don't know better.
Can't begin to tell you how many times a week, I or Andy or James, or John tell people the best money you will ever spend is throw that crap away or send it back to the company you bought it from.
Most do and a few will argue and we suggest at that time that they use another product like PPG or DuPont, because if you use a big company product, when it fails everyone will say its your fault but if you sue SPI it will be our fault.
