Big project-spi black basecoat

I got everything in 3 coats. The door jams in 2 coats. The slow reducer was a learning curve for me. I've always used medium. I sprayed the basecoat wet. With plenty of flash. Almost an hour in between. No major issues to report. I did have a couple minor mishaps. Had a hair land even though I was wearing a suit. Tomorrow 3pm is the appointment for the euro clear

The results are in. 3pm started clearing. 3 coats. 30 mins between coat. Slow reducer slow activator. 35 psi. 1.4 iwata lph. No reactions runs or bugs. Some dust nibs but im not sure I will ever conquer them. I did eliminate bugs by spray foaming the room. Next up is the shell. 600 wet this Thursday. Will update this weekend

Some say it is hard to buff after a few days, but I like the way it sands and buffs after it is nice and dry myself, especially black. Less chance of deep random sand scratches and fewer swirls. May need to spend a little more time with each grit than you would, say the next day, but a week won't be a problem, especially kept inside.

So I shouldn't wheel them out in the sun? I got a damn bird infestation over here. I'd hate for one them to drop a bomb on it and i don't see it for a few hours

I just meant if you put them in the sun for a week they may get a little too hard :) Universal not an issue, Euro might be, but I can't say for sure, because I haven't tried it. I had a bird drop a bomb on my truck's fender. I painted it in the morning and drove it home that evening. The next morning I looked at the fender and of course a bomb only on the fender I painted. Wiped right off with no damage.

Good to know. They are in my shop too. I counted 7 of them. All babies. Couldn't fly but could jump far. I dont think they will make it long without mama bird around.

Got the shell in 600. Washed it twice with dish soap. Dried in the sun. And on jack stands. Sealer and basecoat tomorrow. Weather should be on my side

Got it finished up today. Its outside baking in the sun. Perfect weather today. This is 3 coats of the euro 2020. Has dust nibs but I've gotten pretty good and fixing those. What an undertaking this car has been

Looks very nice! And the as I have said before the sun will help cure the paint and will show in final finish..

I can already see more projects in your future.
When people see the fine job you did on this car, they will be asking you to work on theirs.
Thank you. I have had several guys want me to paint their impalas...but man it is a massive task...and I work full time job that I've debated about walking away from but the benefits and pension keep me tied down..
