When is it safe to use a car cover?

I got my car sprayed, cut and buffed (round one ) at the end of the summer . My plan is to give it a once over next spring, my question is when is it safe to use a light car cover ?

closest thing to a car cover i use is a cotton sheet. covers can create more problems than they solve . never use plastic.
6 months to a year for me .

It's plenty cured & you're buffing it again come spring so light rubs won't matter.
I use budge grey (cheap ones $30) and the tan $80 one with no problems for years other then repacing cover every yr cause they don't last. Beats replacing clearcoat. As shine said, never plastic or hello mold.

walmart use to sell a cotton tan cover. had several that i threw over builds setting in the shop. lightweight linen covers are all i would use.

covers i mentioned turn to crap big time and particles cover turns into gets in every damn thing.i mean takes a cleaning if you keep it on more then 6-12 months outdoors. Disposable.

Oh, how I could write a book on this subject!
Paint must breathe, so always buy a water-resistant cover and Never a waterproof one.
This applies to factory finishes also.

Years a ago, a lawyer called me to look at a 1-year-old car with 200 miles on it as the paint was bubbling, and they were going to sue chrysler.
The idiot had put car in a barn with dirt floor and covered with 4 mil plastic.
Same as storing the car in water.

Isn't that just typical of a lawyer?:D Preface this by saying one of my best friends is a Lawyer. Harvard then UVA Law School. He's a good guy, but the VAST (dare I say all) majority of Attorneys I have known are at best pompous douchebags and at worst out and out crooks. I could tell you guys some stories....my sister and I lost our entire inheritance from our Dad to a crooked lawyer. And it wasn't a small amount either. I will never do work for a Attorney, Period.

Back to covers:
I had two cars I parked outside every day.
One I kept a car cover on, being my favorite car, and the other I left
with nothing on it. I can tell you this, the one with the cover did so much better it
was no contest that the cover helped a lot.
Between the tree sap, the bird crap, sun UV, and all the other contaminates the cars see, the
finish sure held up much better with the cover.
Not to mention the interior fared better, no sun fade.
I don't use one anymore because I now park in a garage.
But I give covers a A+ for older cured paint.
