Polyester primer recoat window?

Have some imperfections I'm going to use high build polyester primer on ,my epoxy will have sit 48 hours my question is after the poly is shot and sanded what is the minimum time I have to give the poly before I can put a sealer coat of epoxy on it? Also what the minimum time That I can go to shooting my SS over the sealer coat of Epoxy. My plan is to poly around 3 pm then sand, would like to put sealer coat on before bed time then shoot SS in the morning or Sealer coat in the morning if I need to give the poly more time then onto SS.

most polys will just clog the paper up unless its really kicked off. i dont even think you'll be able to sand it until the next day. once sanded you can shot a coat of epoxy as a sealer. how long you wait for the sealer to set up before you put the ss on depends on how heavy the sealer went down. it could be 15 min or it could be overnight. if its warm and you put 1 piss thin coat on 1:1:1 then let if flash dull and go right to ss. if you do maybe 2 normal coats at the regular mix then wait until the next day. imo the epoxy sealer wont be necessary when spraying a ss. totally different story if you were doing base/clear. ss will lock up on the poly and stick fantastic.

Ok thanks, I just took what I read was the polyester primer was sandible after an hour or 2 then I didn't know how long to wait for a sealer coat and I was gonna go 1:1:1. Maybe I'll just forget about the sealer coat unless I happen to get bare spots in my sanding the poly.

Where did you read that Poly primer can be sanded in an hour?

Datec on the manufacture of the one I got. I know you'll chastise me for this but I got a 2K aerosol brand awhile back for a small repair and it worked great and I had 1 can left. it said after an hour but also said after cured so I am a bit confused. I think the last time I used it I wasn't in a hurry and it sat a couple days before I sanded it but under a little more time restraint this time, my 7 day window is up Wednesday on my epoxy to get my SS sprayed but Ive kinda made a decision I have time to wait and sand it tomorrow then sealer coat if necessary then start with SS tomorrow afternoon or evening and finish up on Tuesday. Keep in mind this is my first time ever painting and I'm nervous as hell I got a lot invested in this Lol. I probably should have borrowed some SPI High build and bigger tipped gun from the guy I get my SPI from but I didn't .

You have a lot invested and you're taking shortcuts?[/QUOTE

What shortcut??? I've never done this before. I'm trying not to do that enlighten me!!!

A related question, if I use polyester primer, do I need to coat with 2k urethane primer then epoxy sealer if I'm doing BC/CC, or can go from the poly right to sealer coat?

I meant grabbing a spray can rather than a spray gun when applying epoxy. Sounded like you didn't want to take the time to clean up the spray gun.
What you have done so far is looking fantastic.
Oh no I would never use spray can of epoxy, I just had i a spray can of high build polyester primer in a 2 part system that worked really well the one time I used it, its straight up SPI Epoxy for me. As far as I can tell this SPI is great.

The biggest thing I have always seen when I'm teaching people is wanting to push the material too fast into the next step. That is something we have all done when we started out. I am always saying just relax it will be ready when It's ready if you move too fast it will show you who is the "Real" boss of the project is.

So the best advice I can give you is just take a deep breath, take your time and relax.
Allow the material the time to do it's thing and it will do what you want, push it and it will do want it wants.

Do all the tight, hard to get to areas first then do the easy areas. By the looks of what you have done so far looks like you should be just fine just don't forget to breath and relax.
