Help with UV Clear Solvent Pop

I'd like to hear if it pops if you mix & pour some on piece of scrap with, without base, degreaser, ect in booth.
Mix it where u have been & pour where u spray. Just curious.

It doesn't pop if I just pour it. I tried it before after I saw your previous post. Sprayed some, then poured the rest on top of an uncleaned dirty gallon can, nice and thick, no pop.

If you did pour it out and it didn't pop but does when you spray it then the answer (for me atleast) is either you or your equipment. Both of which I'm kinda lost.

You say you have a refrigerated air dryer? Are you sure it is working? You shouldn't have any water after that, are the other filters clean and good to Go? You also have your garage air supply plumbed with Copper??.. (copper wouldn't have been my choice) Any issues There? Over time piping can get a build up of oil on the inside, which is why I always say the big gun filter (coalescing) needs to be at the booth as close to the guns air line as possible. the booths air is the most important to be as clean as you can get it, you don't skimp on air filtration.

The copper piping, air dryer, and QC3 are all new. I added it all after I started having problems. It used to be just all rubber hoses and a couple of regulator/filters, which was problem free for 3 years.

I believe the air dryer is working, the inlet is luke warm and outlet is cold.

I didn't change my spraying technique from when it was working to when I started having problems, but to try to solve it, I've sprayed at higher pressure, lower pressure, farther, closer, light coats, wet coats, reduced, not reduced, retarded, not retarded and any combination I could think of, still can't get rid of it.

Tried another compressor also, still no luck. And my main compressor and the smaller one I tried are both the oil-less type.

What brand primers and Base are you using? Could it be for some odd reason they have issues reacting when SPI clear is applied? I'm not a chemist but your issue has me stumped. That would be the last item I can think of without being there and doing one or two myself with my equipment.

If you can list all material, the brands and reducer temps, that might shed some light.

Drag out old cheap rubber hose sounding like to ne.

Btw- yay. I got interesting question tested & no bubbles.

I do custom airbrush work, so all I use are auto air, wicked colors, and house of kolor paints. No temps on the reducer for the waterbased paints, but I use the medium with house of kolor RU111.

I think I ruled out the paint when Barry had me clear the bare metal gallon can and it did the same thing.

Going to try to clear something outdoors, will help me rule out some things.

Hah! That's why you are a "top banana"! I replaced all my rubber hoses with those yellow goodyear ones, are there better ones I can try? I'll try anything! This is killing my production time.

Welp, sprayed outside, still having problems. This is what the surface looks like after the first coat, solvent pop?

What are you mixing it in and with what to Stir? Dam this has me stymied.

What do your clean you gun with? Use any gun lubricant?

I use mixing cups and wooden sticks. As for cleaning my guns, just acetone and reducer. And no on the lubricant.

When i said get out old air hose it was because u said it was all good tiil you redid air supply.
How bout connecting old hose to compressor tank & regulator on gun and see what happens.
Would eliminate all your new gear.

I never read novels but this is a good one :)

Ahhh no, it was all good when I changed nothing. Old setup was just compressor through two regulators connected with rubber hoses. That worked beautifully for a long time, then all of a sudden the problems, and that's when I redid all the air lines and added all the other stuff.

If it wasn't broke, I wasn't going to fix it!

Hopefully, this novel has a good ending? Anyone read something similar before and have a cliff notes version for me?

Yes, I tried a gallon of euro clear, did the same thing. I still haven't solved it yet, and still getting the same defects as the ones I linked in the previous post. It comes and goes though, like 1 out of 10 days, they clear will be perfectly fine.

Judging from the holes and that they are jagged and not round, it's solvent pop and not contamination correct?

My guess! Two clears did the same thing so most likely moisture from the airline, remember colder weather the humidity goes up and unless you have a desiccant system the compressor is a water manufacturer.
Also, the water traps do wear out with time.

i gotta tell ya, in the pictures you posted in #50 above, i have to agree with barry. it really does look exactly like moisture in the line OR waterborne w&g remover without long enough time to flash off. if thats not it then you have some work cut out for you. these probems can be really hard to track down. i think i mentioned my issue ended up being my mixing cups. who would have thought that.

To eliminate w&g removers, bases ect, have a small clean something next to your next project & spray it too. Nothing fancy, just spray past project keep going with pass over that small something. Non absorbant, not stir stick.
Sounds good to me.

I got pinholes for 1st time in 2 yrs couple weeks ago using up fast activator on crappy day.

Time to revive this thread as I am still having the same issue. I noticed a really weird thing happening today, hoping someone can tell me what the problem may be.

Right after I layed my first coat of UC, I was looking at it under some lights and I saw little dimples form in random places, then lay itself back out. Not many, like 5 or 6 in a 4" x 6" area.

Best thing I can compare it to is raindrops hitting a puddle of water, except I wasn't spraying anything, was just looking at it.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
